5/7/08 06:34 pmExercise should be a game. Right now, from a game perspective, the repetitive motions are just like level-grinding. The genius of Dance Dance Revolution is that it takes the boredom out of exercise. To expand on this, a game should use all four limbs and not just jumping around. Something different from a rythm game, though. I'm thinking of a fighting game. A couple of hacked Wiimotes, one in each hand, could be detected in eight positions around a circle. The player stands on a dance pad, to control dodging. |

Police 911 has something of this in it, although it doesn't get the player to move their whole body. It's a shooting game, but instead of using a foot pedal to take cover like in the Time Crisis series, you actually have to squat to duck down behind an obstacle, or lean from side to side to peer out from behind corners. The arcade game had a set of sensors that detected the position of your head in relation to the cabinet.
The first time I played a marathon of Police 911, my legs were sore for two days. Most of us don't use those squatting muscles very often.
